Enter The Woods 3:1 / Act Two

3:1 – Act Two

When Siobhan stopped reading, Chase placed a heavy hand on the table. “It’s weird. I got nothing but that. But Magick,” he shrugged as if to say ‘what you gonna do?’, “I didn’t immediately assume Magick because I’m not a Magicker.”

“I thought maybe she’d written it herself? Not that she has much time for creative stuff with the amount of work she puts in at Apfel. But, maybe it was some kind of journal thing where she got out her feelings about Banrion.” A shrug. “Not my thing but some people do it, I get. So I followed other leads. Like maybe Banrion found Nieve. But that didn’t make much sense the way she was fawning on me for ‘handling her problem’. She’s never struck me as much of an actress.”

Another shrug. “Then I started thinking kidnapping and waited for the ransom demand to come to Banrion or Apfel. I knew I’d have some scrambling if that happened since Banrion thought I’d offed Nieve. I figured as Security Head I’d get it first and then I could act on it. I have some money. Not to say it was the best case scenario but if I did get a ransom demand at least I’d know she was alive. And I’d have the means to get her back.”

“Days and no demand.”

“And those usually come pretty quick.” Dan told the table

Chase nodded. “K&R is a threat in corporations. I’ve been trained to handle them. We even have insurance. Not that I would tap that to get Nieve back because that would alert Banrioin. But, I know the timeline so not hearing for days is bad.”

“With no other leads I decided to give Magick a try. I’ve contracted three Mediums. They were all frauds or, at least, they didn’t find anything at the pump house.”

Prairie rose without hesitation. “They weren’t me.” She turned to Gwen and in a quiet voice, “I swear, someone calling themselves a “medium” pretty much guarantees they have no connection with Magick.” Looking around the table to where everyone else was still standing, including Chase, she said, “What are you all waiting for. Let’s go.”
